MARZBAGZ is an ever changing collection of one-of-a-kind handbags designed by Marlene Sontchi. Her bags are described as fun, practical, elegant, artistic, and just plain WOW. Marlene lives in Wilmington and is a self-taught artisan/designer who began to create handbags after retiring from her business career in 2001.
FUN FACTS:
· In 2005, for the grand reopening of the Delaware Museum of Art, she was commissioned to design handbags to reflect the art of three Turn of the Century Marketing posters. These handbags were exhibited and sold in the Museum store.
· During a design competition in May 2006, her designs were awarded first prize in the handbag category. The winning designers were recognized in the May10, 2006 issue of Delaware ’s “Spark Weekly”.
· She was chosen by Governor Minner’s administration as one of a select group to showcase Delaware artists at a gathering of state legislators from across the country.
· She is a member of Delaware by Hand. Delaware by Hand showcases the incredibly talented craftspeople living and working in Delaware . Check out the website at www.delawarebyhand.org
· Each year, Marlene participates in several juried shows including Hagley Museum and Library’s “An Artisans Marketplace”.
· She holds an annual SPRING show and sale at her home.
· Marlene offers “Home Handbag Shows/Parties” which are always fun. Unlike other “Handbag Parties”, the unique bags presented are for sale.
